When I first thought about the concept of assessment, I believe that it was an important aspect of education for both the student and the teacher. To me, assessments allows the teacher to know where his/her learners are and be able to give them feedback on what needs to be fixed or whether they are on the right track.
Formative assessment is transferred to the students during the instructional process, while learning is taking place and can be used to measure the progress of the student as well assess the own progress of the instructor. The main focus of the assessment is to determine areas of improvement.
As I teacher, I have understood that this is applied to test students' knowledge in an informal way while teaching is in progress.
Summative assessment is conducted after the learning has completed with information and feedback summing up the teaching and learning process. Rubrics are often developed to be used along with summative assessment. It assesses what was learnt and how well it was learnt.
As I teacher, I have understood that this is applied to come to a conclusion of what was learnt and how well only after the teaching and learning has taken place. It assesses the final product and once that product is completed no further revision can be made.
With regards to, the levels of flexibility and adaptability I believe that I will have to be flexible enough to adapt to any changes that may occur. As a teacher I should engage my students formative and summative assessment to ensure progress of learning taking place within my classroom.
My strategies may need to vary because I need to cater for the different learning styles in the classroom so that they are assessed appropriately.
The immediate challenges that I can identify are targeting which assessment to use that is appropriate to the lesson and how to transition it in the classroom smoothly.
The road ahead is intractable when I consider past and present experiences with administrators, as well as the contemporary education system.
If I had to resolve some of these issues, I would suggest that the curriculum include the necessary changes to adapt to the different learners in the classroom.
